SmitFraudFix Tool can fix your infected PC.

Sorry for not posting on Monday. I had some errands to run.

Being that I remove Malware for a living. I have discovered many FREE tools that are very effective to use. SmitFraudFix is one of those FREE tools. SmitFraudFix only works in Windows XP. It does not work in Windows Vista. I have not tested it with Windows 7. Initially I thought this was a virus of some sort. In fact their is a infection called SmithFraudFix but this is SmitFraudFix. It is not a virus and it has allowed me to remove a lot of the common infections that I run into. Did I mention it is FREE to use. Just download the file to your desktop for now. You can download it HERE.
//

In my experiences SmitFraudFix works best if you run it in Safe Mode. So reboot your computer and press the F8 key as soon as the Windows Logo appears. A DOS base screen will give you about 8 or so choices. You need to select SAFE MODE with Networking. Now your PC will finish booting and it will not be your normal Windows screen so do not be alarm if some of your icons or programs do not work. This is Windows XP Safe Mode. It allows you to fix issues that you may be having. After you reboot your PC and allow Windows XP to boot normally, everything will work as expected.

Around 60% of the time some infections are only active in your normal Windows. So if you can boot to Safe mode you may be able to clean your computer of the infection.

After you download SmitFraudFix to your desktop double click on the icon. It should look like this

The first time you run SmitFraudFix it will ask to run it. Select run> As of 9/29/2009 the current version is v2.424.

The 2nd best thing about SmithFraudFix is that it is tool that updates periodically. Although it is a manually update it is still a great tool. So after you press the space bar you get this screen.

Now as a rule of thumb always press 4. This will check for updates. I am assuming you are connected to Internet. If you are not connected to the Internet it will still clean whatever it finds.

To clean you need to press the number 2. Just so you will know the first selection does not do anything. It just scans and will not remove anything. Next you will get a screen that says killing process. Do not be alarm it will kill everything running. So do not start any other apps. This is another reason why it needs to started in Safe Mode. This may take 10 or more minutes.

Next you will get a message that says do you want to clean the registry. I always chose yes and press the enter key. This may take another 10 minutes or more and it may seem like your PC is locked up. Do not do anything just allow it to finish. You will then get a report of what SmithFraudFix finds and it will then go back to the main screen.

Selection 4 will delete Trusted Zones. I always select this but I do not know what it will actually do unless the infection has place trusted sites that are really not trusted sites. So if currently infected you may want run this anyway.

Now you can pick 5 this will correct any DNS issues Dynamic Name Server issue. DNS is important because it is allows for commons names to be used like www.adjustservices.com instead of 68.142.234.143 Thank GOD for DNS. To keep this from happening in the future, you need to do this. Go to control panel/administrative tools/services. Look for "DNS Client" double click on it to get its menu. Switch it to "disabled" and "stop" it. Hit apply. Now their is no DNS Client for the virus to hijack anymore. Your Internet will work just fine.

You last step is 6. This will check to see if you have a Proxy issue. Some viruses will change your Proxy if you are using one. Thus only allowing your browser to only go to certain sites. Most of the time a proxy is use to keep your PC anonymous. to the Internet. Most people do not use proxies.

Chose I for quit and reboot normally. Leave comments to let me know if this works for you or not.
